I love love, and I love weddings. The party, the dresses, the decoration and the dancing. My artwork revolves around love, intimacy and joy. When I thought about doing a newsletter about wedding commissions, I thought I would only have a few ceramic pieces to share. But as I did my research on my instagram archive, I realized I had more work than I thought. It’s not much but they’re all so special and it genuinely makes me happy that couples made wuwu part of their love celebration.
Weddings make me very emotional, specially when someone close to me gets married. Specially my girls. When my sister got proposed I got so emotional. I was crying so hard, I had mixed feelings. I was so happy for her, but at the same time I felt a little heart break. I might go deeper on this in another newsletter about love and heartbreaks, but I usually grief before consciously knowing i’ll have my heart broken, like an anticipated grief (if that makes any sense). Not that there was anything bad about my sister getting married, but in that moment my heart and body knew that she was starting her own family, her independent life. I’ve had that same feeling with my best friends. All of them are married now, it even makes me emotional to write this, but the moment they got married I just felt things would change. I know it sounds maybe too clingy but i’m so close and intimate with the people I love, and i fall in love so much with my closest people, it’s just a little grief of knowing friendship will change but that doesn’t mean it will disappear, it just evolves.
I’m being a little dramatic, I’m even closer to them now than i was before but in a different way. I really enjoy sharing time with them and their partners. I love visiting their home, updating about our lives and learning from their couple dynamics. It’s nice to see how they are growing as lovers and as individuals.
I used to watch the movie My best friends wedding over and over and ooooover again! I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it in my life.
Main character moment: Just Imagine that in this scene i’m Julia Roberts and Michael represents all my besties getting married.
Enough about my emotional ass.
This is a collection of work I’ve done for weddings. Most of them in Tijuana. And the most recent ones were for celebrations in Las Vegas and Cuernavaca.
Most of the commissions I’ve done have been cake toppers. Ceramic figurines of the bride and the groom for their wedding cake. I LOVE CAKES. My first commission was for my friend Adrian who got married in one of my favorite restaurants in Tijuana, Kool. We've been friends since high school and when he asked me to do his wedding cake toppers I got so excited.
I’ll show them to you, but they might look weird, and a little different from my recent work in ceramics. This was 2017 or 2018, and the name of my character’s project was different back then. In that time they were called “Frutos del mar” (literal translation: fruits of the sea. But it’s more like, creatures from the sea).
Since that commission, without planning this, I started to get other commissions for more weddings, more cake toppers and some illustrations for invitations.
The quality of these pictures are bad :( I had to go all the way back to the Instagram archive from 2018ish. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this collection of wuwu lovers.

Save the date
Since I moved to Vancouver I stopped making ceramics. So that means no more sculpture commissions until further notice. But luckily, I still had some people interested in my illustration. It’s not very common for me to make work for other people who aren’t from my hometown, but every once in a while I get lucky and meet people on the internet or travelling.
I met Sandra in Italy in 2022. I was having dinner at a restaurant with my cousin Naty in Florencia. I don’t remember what pasta I ordered, i just remember I had a bite and said to Naty: This pasta tastes like birria. Sandra was sitting beside us having dinner and she laughed when she heard the birria reference. She asked: ¿De dónde son? and from there we started talking in Spanish, sharing our backgrounds and a little bit of who we are. Since then, Sandra and I followed each other on Instagram and last year, two months after moving to Vancouver, she asked me to make her wedding invitations. I am very grateful of any commission that makes me part of a special day like this, but this commission for Sandra made me very hopeful of expanding my artwork and trusting that my art can connect with more people outside my hometown. It really motivated me because I sometimes feel the work i’m doing isn’t going anywhere. And situations like this gives me more perspective that wuwus can really cross borders and they can be loved in other places around the world.

Las Vegas fantasy
Being part of a wedding in Las Vegas has been a fantasy of mine for so long. This year many dreams came true and this wedding was one of them. My best friend got married in the little white chapel. I was her maid of honor, her makeup artist, photographer, videographer and stylist. We managed to make this wedding happen in less than a month. It was so much fun, we had the greatest time with the weirdest mix of besties from the bride and the groom. I’m very close to this couple, Noemi and Marc are family to me. It was so beautiful to get ready together. The three of us in the hotel bathroom listening to Charli xcx, while marc was shaving and I was doing Noemi’s bridal makeup.
After the wedding dinner, we crashed a house party from a local. His name was Charles. Everybody knew about him but we never met him. They said he hosts this party every year. The rest of this trip was as random as this local party somewhere near old Vegas.
This was her wedding invitation:

Currently, my artwork in ceramics is on hold, but I still accept commissions for illustrations. I hope to be part of more weddings in the future and decorate their cakes and invitations. I enjoy celebrating love and I am very grateful to this couples for making me part of something so loving and fun.
